What to know before taking Strattera?
You should not take Strattera for at least 14 days after stopping an MAOI as if the MAOI is still in your system, you could experience serious side effects which could be fatal. You should inform your doctor if your child has any heart problems before they take Strattera as some ADHD medications have been linked to sudden death in children and teenagers. Strattera can cause suicidal thoughts. You should not take Strattera if you have glaucoma or if you have ever had an allergic reaction to Atomoxetine. You may need special tests to ensure you get a safe dose of Strattera if you have any conditions such as bipolar disorder; heart disease; blood pressure problems; history of strokes; urination problems; liver disease; or if there is a family history of heart problems. You should not take Strattera for long term treatment of ADHD as it can slow growth in children. It should not be given to children under the age of six.
What is the Strattera dosage?
Only take Strattera on the instructions of your doctor. Do not take bigger doses than what you have been prescribed and do not take it for longer than the course prescribed. The dosage prescribed will be specific to each person depending on the strength of the medication and the condition being treated. The normal dosage of Strattera when treating ADHD in adults is 40mg once per day. This may be increased by your doctor if necessary. Dosage for children over the age of six is 0.5mg per kg of body weight to begin with. This can be increased if necessary.
