Nolvadex is prescribed for the treatment of breast cancer.  Nolvadex can be used to reduce the chance of women at high risk from developing the disease.

What are Nolvadex side effects?

Side effects of Nolvadex can include vomiting, nausea or hot flashes. You should contact your doctor if you experience any of these serious side effects.  If you experience any of the signs of an allergic reaction, you should get emergency help immediately.  These signs can include swelling of the face, mouth or tongue; trouble breathing; rash or hives.

What to know before taking Nolvadex?

There could be an increased risk in those taking Nolvadex, of developing uterine cancer.  It is recommended therefore, that women taking Nolvadex should have routine exams with their gynecologist and that any changes in menstrual bleeding or discharge, should be reported immediately.  Nolvadex should only be taken with care in patients who have a history of blood clots in the lungs or the veins for treatment of breast cancer.  It should not be taken by these patients to reduce the risk of breast cancer.  There is also a risk of problems in the liver for people taking Nolvadex so it should be prescribed to people with a history of liver problems with caution.  Nolvadex has been known to raise calcium levels in the blood to an extremely high amount and this can be very dangerous.  Signs of this can include loss of appetite, weakness, muscle pain or even kidney failure.  Nolvadex should not be taken while pregnant as it could harm the unborn child.  It is important to use birth control if you have been prescribed Nolvadex for the treatment of breast cancer.

What is the Nolvadex dosage?

You should take Nolvadex as directed by your doctor.  Only take the amount of Nolvadex that has been prescribed by your doctor and do not take it for longer than the recommended course.  Dosage will vary from person to person.  For treating breast cancer in adults, the normal dose is from 20-40mg per day.  Single doses should not be more than 20mg.  Doses prescribed for reducing the chances of developing breast cancer are usually 20mg every day for five years.

What are the Nolvadex interactions?

Nolvadex may interact with certain drugs such as Bromocriptine, Rifampin, Warfarin, Phenobarbital, Letrozole, Cyclophosphamide or Aminoglutethimide.  There may also be other drugs which could interact with Nolvadex so it is advisable to inform your doctor of any other medication you might be taking including vitamins, over the counter pain killers and herbal products.

What should I avoid while taking Nolvadex?

Your doctor will advise you of any food or drinks which should be avoided while taking Nolvadex.

What is Estradiol used for?

Estradiol is an estrogen drug and is prescribed for treating symptoms of the menopause including dryness of the vagina, and hot flashes.  It can also be prescribed to treat patients with an estrogen deficiency due to hypogonadism which is also known as ovarian failure.  Estradiol injections are also sometimes used in the treatment of prostate cancer.

What are Estradiol side effects?

More common side effects of Estradiol include changes in periods; decrease in libido; nausea; swollen feet or ankles; dizziness; vomiting; acne; swollen breasts; vaginal pain or dryness or loss of appetite.  Some side effects which are more serious can include confusion; unusual vaginal bleeding; chest pain; vision problems; abdominal pain or swelling; jaundice; breast lumps or sudden headaches.  Contact your doctor if you have any incidence off these more serious side effects.  If you notice any signs of an allergic reaction such as rash or hives; trouble breathing or swollen tongue, throat, mouth or face you should seek medical advice straight away.

What to know before taking Estradiol?

If you have conditions such as circulation problems; breast or uterine cancer; history of blood clots or strokes; or any unusual vaginal bleeding, you should not take Estradiol.  Do not take Estradiol if you are pregnant as it can cause birth defects.  There is an increased risk that patients who take Estradiol could develop endometrial hyperplasia which has been known to develop into uterine cancer.  This risk may be lowered by taking progestins. Using Estradiol for a long period of time can increase the risk of developing conditions such as stroke, heart attacks or breast cancer. If you have conditions such as asthma; high cholesterol; angina; hypertension; liver disease; gallbladder disease; diabetes; kidney disease; epilepsy; migraines or depression you should tell your doctor as you might need to have your dose adjusted.

What is the Estradiol dosage?

Only take Estradiol on the instructions of your doctor.  Do not take bigger doses than what you have been prescribed and do not take it for longer than the course prescribed. The dosage prescribed will be specific to each person depending on the strength of the medication and the condition being treated. The normal dosage for oral tablets in adults for the treatment of breast cancer is 10mg three times every day for at least three months.  Injections of Estradiol are given into a muscle usually every four weeks. The dosage of Estradiol injections can vary from 1mg to 30mg depending on the condition being treated and the gap between injections.

What are the Estradiol interactions?

Certain drugs may interact with Estradiol including Carbamezepine; Clarithromycin; Ketoconazole; St. John’s Wort; Rifamate; Warfarin; Itraconazole and Ritonavir.  Some other drugs may also interact with Estradiol so it is important to advise your doctor of any other products you might be taking including herbal medication, over the counter pain killers and vitamins or supplements.

What should I avoid while taking Estradiol?

What is Arimidex used for?

Arimidex is prescribed for the treatment of breast cancer in post menopausal women.  It is usually used for women who have taken tamoxifen but whose symptoms have progressed.  Arimidex works by lowering estrogen levels which is needed by some tumors to grow in the body.

What are Arimidex side effects?

Side effects of Arimidex can include depression; weakness; back or bone pain; sore throat; hot flashes; nausea; joint pain or stiffness or mood changes.  More serious side effects can include confusion; sudden severe headache; vision problems; sudden weakness particularly on one side; swollen hands or feet; swollen glands or a bone fracture.  Contact your doctor if you experience any of these serious side effects. Seek emergency medical assistance if you experience signs of an allergic reaction including trouble breathing; tightness of chest; rash or hives or swollen face, lips, tongue or throat.

What to know before taking Arimidex?

Arimidex can harm an unborn child so you should tell your doctor if you are pregnant.  You should make sure you are using a birth control method if you are taking Arimidex.  Arimidex should not be used if you are breastfeeding.  You should also inform your doctor if you are suffering from circulation problems; severe liver or kidney disease; heart disease; have a history of stroke or a blood clot or if you have not finished the menopause as you may need to have your dose adjusted.  You should also tell your doctor if you are taking tamoxifen or estrogen as this can lessen the effectiveness of Arimidex.  Do not take Arimidex if you are allergy to Anastrozole.
