Effexor No Prescription

What is Effexor used for?

Effexor is prescribed for the treatment of anxiety, severe depression and panic disorders.  It is an SSNRI (selective serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor) and helps to prevent natural chemicals in the brain from becoming imbalanced.  Effexor aids the improvement of mood problems.

What are Effexor side effects?

Side effects of Effexor can include decrease in libido; dizziness; dry mouth; impotence; drowsiness; mild nausea; blurred vision; constipation; change in weight, nervousness or increase in appetite..  More serious side effects can include nausea; loss of appetitie; increase in blood pressure; bleeding or bruising easily; headaches; diarrhea; palpitations; blurred vision; fainting; hallucinations; vomiting; skin rash; high fever; weakness or stiff muscles.  You should contact your doctor if you experience any of these serious side effects.  If you experience any of the signs of an allergic reaction, you should get emergency help immediately.  These signs can include swelling of the face, mouth or tongue; trouble breathing; rash or hives.

What to know before taking Effexor?

You should not take Effexor if you have had an allergic reaction to Venlafaxine or if you are using an MAOI (monoamine oxidase inhibitor). MAOIs can include Tranylcypromine, Phenelzine, Rasagiline or Isocarboxazid. You should wait at least 14 days after taking an MAOI before taking Effexor to ensure it has completely left your system.  Effexor can induce suicidal thoughts especially in those under the age of 24.  You should inform your doctor if you have conditions such as kidney disease, hypertension; cirrhosis of the liver; bipolar disorder; glaucoma; high cholesterol or seizures.  You should make your doctor aware if you are pregnant or breastfeeding as Effexor could have a harmful effect on unborn infants if taken in the last trimester of pregnancy and it can also pass through breast milk.

What is the Effexor dosage?

You should take Effexor as directed by your doctor.  Only take the amount of Effexor that has been prescribed by your doctor and do not take it for longer than the recommended course.  Dosage will vary from person to person.  The normal dosage for Effexor (extended-release capsules) in adults is 75mg once each day either in the morning or the evening.  This can be increased by your doctor up to 225mg per day if required.  The oral tablet form can be increased up to 375mg per day by your doctor.  Dosage for children must be prescribed by your doctor. Effexor should be swallowed with a full glass of water and should be taken with food to prevent an upset stomach.  Effexor is more effective if taken at the same time every day.

What are the Effexor interactions?

Effexor may interact with certain drugs such as Cimetidine; Haloperidol; Trytophan; Warfarin; Risperidone; Sumatriptan; Zolmitriptan; Ketoconazole or Almotriptan.  There may also be other drugs which could interact with Effexor so it is advisable to inform your doctor of any other medication you might be taking including vitamins, over the counter pain killers and herbal products.

What should I avoid while taking Effexor?

Taking Effexor with alcohol could increase side effects so it is advisable to avoid alcohol.  Effexor can cause impaired reactions so you should take extra care if driving or operating heavy machinery.  Medications which can cause sleepiness such as muscle relaxers; sleeping pills; narcotic pain killers or sedatives should not be taken with Effexor as they can add to the sleepiness caused.
