What is Prozac used for?
Prozac is prescribed for treating symptoms of conditions such as panic disorder, bulimia nervosa, major depression, OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) and PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder). What to know before taking Prozac?

Pregnant women should not take Prozac as it could cause serious lung problems in newborns. What is the Prozac dosage?
Only take Prozac on the instructions of your doctor. Do not take bigger doses than what you have been prescribed and do not take it for longer than the course prescribed. The dosage prescribed will be specific to each person depending on the strength of the medication and the condition being treated. The usual dosage of Prozac for treating adults with OCD is 20mg once per day in the morning. This can be increased by your doctor if required but usually not more than 80mg per day is prescribed. You should take extra care when partaking in any activities which require full alertness, as Prozac can cause impaired reactions or thoughts. Medications which cause sleepiness such as narcotic pain medicines, sleeping pills, muscle relaxers, sedatives or cold medications, should all be avoided as they can add to the drowsiness which Prozac causes.
